About Me

Greetings! I’m Leigh. Here are two photos of me — one at The Lego Store in New York City, the other in Hawaii (the big island).

I’m a researcher investigating virtual and new media geographies. I’ve recently graduated with a Ph.D. from University of Texas at Austin, and previously graduated with an M.A. from San Diego State University and a B.A. from University of Kansas. Click here to view my curriculum vitae.

I wrote my dissertation on the imaginative geographies of online video games and my master’s thesis on the representation of cultural geography in the Suikoden video game series. You can also read my Space and Culture and GeoJournal articles with a subscription or library access, and Volume Two of Aether without a subscription. In addition, I’ve taught my own course — GRG 309, Games & Virtual Geography. There’s also a class blog where students posted free writing assignments.

I also have several hobbies, including collecting LEGO toys, LEGO photography, video gaming, and making games.
