These two pictures are very similar, but the one on the right with the more distant view can be viewed at a much larger size if you click on it.

This probably isn’t too exciting (except to me!), but this is a demo of the actual main character of the prologue walking around. Incidentally, his name is Niraj, and he’s a member of a small four-person crew operating the colony ship during its departure from Earth and its arrival at New Planet (as yet unnamed). There is a different main character for Chapter 1. Click on the walking demo screen below to activate it, then press the arrow keys to move Niraj around. So far, I’ve only finished the male templates and this one sprite (and that ship graphic and the design document). Next I’ll work on the female templates, which might take a while longer because I have less to work with than I did with the male templates. After that, I’ll make animated sprites for the other characters in the prologue, implement them (so they walk around), and add a dialogue system. Then I’ll probably start working on some graphics, layouts, and maps of the space ship. Late last night, I finished my male base walking animation and plugged it in to my walking demo. It looks about like I thought it would, so I’m satisfied. I still have some minor edits to make to create the rest of the male templates (possibly tonight; I usually work on this at the end of the day), and then I’ll animate the female base, too. This seems like kind of a lot of work, considering there are only seven characters in the prologue, and not all body types are included, but this way, I’ll be ready for the NPCs that appear in Chapter 1 (or possibly at the very end of the prologue). This photo was taken by Kufat. I’ve still got other sprite animations to work on, but male side view walking animation is finished. I’m pleased with how it’s going so far! The walking animations are part of my basic sprite templates, which I created by following this tutorial. Sprite templates are sort of featureless bases that you can edit to create the characters in your game. And actually, though I haven’t had a chance to try it out (to see if it’s easier than using an image editor or not), I think I can pin clothes and hair to the templates in Construct 2. Anyway, I have several different templates for a few different body types, but they’re all edited from either male base or female base. So, currently, my goal is creating walking animations for male/female. After that, I’ll edit those to create the rest of the walking animations. |
